Counting Every Vote

Plus: New reporting from Arizona. 🗳️

Published: 7.7.23

Americans overwhelmingly say it’s more important that we count every legal vote in 2024 than that their preferred candidate win, according to a new survey by States United Action in partnership with YouGov.

Nearly 3 in 4 Americans, 74 percent, believe counting all legal votes is more important than their candidate winning. And the large majority of Americans “strongly” agreed with the tradeoff. This news is heartening, as Election Deniers continue to attempt to undermine our system of free and fair elections.

And Americans of all political persuasions prioritize counting every legal vote, including 75 percent of Democrats, 74 percent of Republicans, and 70 percent of Independents. It’s the latest evidence that free and fair elections aren’t a partisan issue.
