States United Action Applauds Bipartisan and Law Enforcement Support for Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson; Urges Swift Confirmation to U.S. Supreme Court

Washington, D.C. — In advance of the full Senate vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court, the co-founders of States United Action—former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman, Ambassador Norm Eisen, and CEO Joanna Lydgate—issued the following statement in support of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.

“Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is eminently qualified to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. When confirmed by the U.S. Senate with bipartisan support for the fourth time in her career, Judge Jackson will become the first Black woman to serve on the nation’s highest court—and the Supreme Court will come one step closer to reflecting our country.”

“While the nomination process has been contentious, the bipartisan support Judge Jackson has earned in the nomination process thus far from Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, and Mitt Romney of Utah, as well as support from law enforcement leaders and groups across the country, point to what we believe is necessary to strengthen our democracy: hard work from all levels of government and from both sides of the aisle in pursuit of a more fair and just union.”

“The Supreme Court must play a crucial role in checking abuses of power by the president and judges—regardless of party. As Judge Jackson’s nomination moves to the Senate floor, it’s clear that she is not afraid to give careful scrutiny to claims of presidential privilege and threats to our democracy that risk undermining the rule of law and balance of power in this country. Having Justice Jackson uphold the rule of law on our highest court will sustain our nation’s values and strengthen our democracy.”
